Auditaz and AWS Trusted Advisor
Trusted Advisor covers several fronts broadly. We cover cost only, and deeply.
What each one does
Trusted Advisor is AWS's best-practice checker, spanning five pillars: cost, performance, security, fault tolerance and service limits. It is broad by design — cost is one slice of what it examines, not the focus.
The full set of cost checks sits behind Business or Enterprise support plans; on the basic plan only a small subset appears. And the cost checks it does run tend to be the most evident ones — idle instance, unassociated IP — without the crossing of usage, list price and region that separates "this resource looks idle" from "this resource costs $84 a month and here is what you get back".
Side by side
| Trusted Advisor | Auditaz | |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Five pillars, cost is one | Cost only, in more depth |
| Recoverable amount | Estimated on some checks | In dollars, per resource, on all of them |
| Fix commands | Written recommendation | Ready command, with a safety guard on anything destructive |
| Availability | Full checks require a paid support plan | One-off scan, no support plan |
When the other tool is the right call
If you already pay for Business or Enterprise support, Trusted Advisor comes with it and covers security and service limits, which we do not look at. It is the natural starting point — and stays useful afterwards, because the fronts it covers beyond cost have no equivalent here.
